  • Arrange the chairs to form a circle and have the students sit in them.
  • The students go around the circle one by one and say a time. (e.g. one student says one o'clock, the next student says two o'clock, etc).
  • If a student falters or makes a mistake, they have to go to the centre of the circle. These students will become the “hour-hand” and point to the students who are calling out the time, but before that, they have to say (or repeat after the teacher) the numbers.
  • As more students become “hour-hands” in the centre of the circle, they have to hold hands or stand in a line. They will have fun pointing their arms around the circle this way.
  • Teachers should improvise if there are too many students in the circle. The students who are the “hour hand” should still be in a line (or hold hands with other “hour-hands,”) as they follow other students who are doing the time.

  • This game works with well-behaved classes but can be a nightmare with rowdier classes.
  • For larger classes, teachers should consider breaking the class into smaller groups and have a few games going on simultaneously.
  • If the kids are too “genki” (out of control), consider getting rid of the “hour-hand” concept and have students who make mistakes replace each other. For example, if student A makes a mistake and becomes the hour-hand, then student B makes a mistake; student B will replace student A as the hour-hand and student A will take student B’s seat and rejoin the game.
