Students fill in a form then insert the info into a template to create a crazy story, then have a go at writing their own.

- First, students fill in the boxes on the front of the worksheet. Try to get them to write interesting things. Make more suggestions than are on the worksheet and offer to spell anything they don't know. It is easy for them to understand if you or/and the teacher also make up your own answers and write them on the board. When they have all finished they turn over the paper and put the words they have written into the story on the opposite side. As they are doing it, walk around the classroom and comment on what they are writing. The students soon get into it if you say things like "wow! scandal! Yuki played tennis with Yoshio Kojima!"etc.
- Hopefully, by the time they have all finished they should understand what they are writing. However, to check, you can read out your story and get the studetns to translate it line by line. If you have a genki brave class have a few volunteers read out their stories.
- After that, get the kids to make up their own crazy stories. Some students in my classes just copied the same pattern and added different things but some kids went all out, I had some visit the moon to kill the rabbit etc.
- This also introduces "was" without much explanation really needed. However, if it has yet to be taught and you dont want to have to explain the meaning you can easily add an "a/an" and put 8 in front of 2 (if you look at the worksheet, it should make sense).
- The more you encourage variety in this class the better it will be. Don't hold back!
- Without genkiness on the part of the JTE/ALT, this one might take a turn for the worse.
